My take on Designer PR

Like a breathe of fresh air, a new beginning and the prospects of what has been said of PR - being redundant and with a lack of creativity. Designer PR opens up the possibilities of being new, original and innovative. In today’s world with everything changing in a matter of moments and being able to access information from all around the world, the traditional way of doing things can not have the impact and stand out quality that PR needs.

If ordering a simple cup of coffee has become that complex, how much more will it be in managing PR effectively and building strong relationships that PR is known for. Taking into consideration that we not only have to please the organisation but above that we need to meet the customers’ needs and excel above their expectations. As PRP’s, do we have the necessary skills and knowledge? Like knowing the many facets to a simple cup of coffee, we now have to expand our perspectives and environments through our originality, creativity.

PR needs to be out of the norm and add that wow factor and Designer PR allows for that. The opportunity is here and PR should go for it, change is constant and PR needs to be proactive and keep with the trends.

  1. I think that is what a lot of people just don't get, lets call it the misperception of PR, that it takes a creative mind to make PR successful. You hit the nail on the head when you stated 'PR needs to be out of the norm and add tha wow factor and Designer PR allows for that.' Designer PR will equip, or rather enable us, with the necessary skills to add that wow factor and have us, PRP's stand above marketing, advertising and branding. We are in a league of our own.

  2. We are equipped with the needed interpersonal, relationship and communication skills, but is now up to us as PRP's to decide whether we are going to explore these skills and develope them in accordance with change. This era of 'Designer PR' opens doors for our industry, and we need to embrace the change!

  3. I can't help but wonder: do we have enough skills? Communication and PR have become so dependend on technology and as I clearly found out this week, I have a lot to learn about technology. It is scary, I never thought I would feel as if I am part of the generation that is being laughed at, but I was this week with my stupid questions about twitter and blogging and linking the two. Therefore I think it is very important that we take courses to broaden our knowledge and keep up to date with trends.

  4. Beautifully structured and articulated I say. Everyone who devises plans of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones, I call them designers. That's what we did. We made the leap from the business faculty to the design faculty. I'm so excited that we made this leap and I'm embracing this change. When I enter industry next year, I hope to bring with me something fresh something new. Designer PR.
